New York’s Greek Parade on 5th Ave

NEW YORK – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and parishes from the tri-state area celebrated Greek Independence Day by taking part in the 2017 Annual Greek Independence Day Parade on 5th Avenue. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios Geron of America led the parade along with His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey. The two parade Grand marshals this year were businessman from Greece Ivan Savidis and Greek American businessman and scientist from New York Dr. George D. Yancopoulos. Many other honored guests included NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, US Senator Charles Schumer, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and representing the Greek Parliament, Alexandros Triandafillides, president of the Parliamentary Committee for Greeks Abroad. The Greek Parade on 5th Avenue is coordinated by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, Peros Galatoulas, president.
